I like the idea that complete opposites can survive the test of time and life together. This gives me a lot of hope. Great post!

I believe that love is related to the way we feel about ourselves when we are with that other person. When we fall in love with someone it is not only due to complementary traits, but it's the sense of self that is bolstered by the connection each has to the other. Your mate may make you feel needed or may help you to feel stronger, bolder, prettier, handsomer, more intellectual - whatever trait you are seeking to boost within yourself.

I agree about the love at first sight. Unfortunately, sometimes it's a one-way love at first sight, and that's one of the most painful ways to live. I had the misfortune (in a way) of meeting my Miss Right when I was 16. As you said, I had the image of my perfect mate established for ears, and she had all of those qualities I desired.

We dated for a while, but me being a 16-year old jerk, it didn't last. To this day, decades later, that is the only true regret I have in life.
